What is Integrative Medicine?

Physicians have gone through 4 years of medical school followed by years of residency to learn Conventional Medicine in which they practice standard of care and evidence-based treatment modalities.  Integrative medicine involves incorporating non-mainstream practices for treating one’s mental health.  Sunflower Psychiatry aims to treat the mental, the physical and spiritual aspects of mental health. Integrative psychiatry we utilizes nutrition, over the counter supplements, meditation, behavioral modifications, and breath support  (to name a few) as additional tools to the traditional practitioner’s toolbox.  

What do I need to have done before the appointment?

You need to have the paperwork in your portal completed and sent to our office 2 days before the appointment is scheduled.  

What does a Psychiatric appointment look like?

For an initial psychiatric evaluation, we spend an hour getting to know you.  We go in-depth into your psychiatric history, asking questions relating to your personal experiences, family history, behavioral habits etc. in order to form a proper diagnosis and form a treatment plan catered to you. Afterwards, we follow up closely to see if you are progressing correctly. These follow appointments are usually are between 15- 20 minutes in which we evaluate for side effects, discuss new issues that have emerged and address any questions or concerns patients have at that time.  The time line for follow up appointments can vary from a few days to 3 months depending on  what we are targeting and monitoring

What is Telepsychiatry?

Telepsychiatry allows us to conduct an appointment through the phone or computer.  In order for this to be an appropriate way to communicate, the patient needs to have adequate cellular/internet service, with working video and audio, and the patient must not be driving or engaging in any other actions with require their attention.  Before we begin the appointment, we require we get your whereabouts during the appointment.  If there are other people in the room present for the interview, you must disclose their attendance prior to the start of the appointment.  Currently we are only seeing patients via Telepsychiatry.

Who do you treat?

  We treat all races, religions and genders between the ages of 18 to 60 years old.  

Do you take insurance?

We do! Currently we accept Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Oxford, Cigna and Aetna plans.

Do you offer psilocybin or ketamine?

We do not.

Do you do TMS?

We can evaluate and assess whether the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is right for you and refer you to a facility that performs the treatment, however, we do not offer it at Sunflower Psychiatry at this time.  

Do you prescribe medical marijuana?

We do not.
